"Proposals for major regeneration schemes in Ibrox, at the SECC and Glasgow Harbour hang in the balance after the Government said it will allow only one Las Vegas-style super casino to operate in the UK.
"Labour has bowed to opposition pressure for the concession to ensure the Gambling Bill, which overhauls the country's outdated gaming legislation, becomes law before Parliament is dissolved next week ahead of national elections. Speculation is already mounting the single super casino could be sited in London or Blackpool.
"The decision puts plans for three super casinos in Glasgow into disarray and threatens wider developments centred on the proposed gambling palaces.
"…Plans for a casino at Springfield Quay which is not a super casino will be unaffected by the re-working of the Gambling Bill. A spokesman for London Clubs International said their complex should be open by summer 2006…"
