| California County to Vote on Casino |
"County supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday night to hold a special advisory election Nov. 8 to ask local residents if they support a tribal gaming facility on 40 acres in south Yuba County.
"Voters won't be deciding whether Enterprise Rancheria ever builds its project on Forty Mile Road because the ballot measure is essentially a public opinion poll. The election's outcome is nonbinding, so it has no legal ramifications.
"The cost to hold a special election could run anywhere from nothing to $100,000, officials estimate, depending on whether Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's special election pans out and whether the state reimburses the county for any of the election expenses.
"… Casino supporters hope a victory in November will catch the eye of the governor, with whom the tribe must negotiate a compact if it wants to operate a casino…"
